Helping Our Neighbors Bridge the Gap
Earlier this month, the Montgomery County Council heard powerful testimony from the Interfaith Works community, including staff, board members, and volunteers. Our message was clear: this community deserves to have continued access to programs that prevent homelessness. As we continue to see a growing need, we know that advocating for our clients and the wider community has never been so vital.
I have been sharing my thoughts these past months about the importance of rising to meet this moment together. Our elected officials need to hear our collective voices as we share the realities of those who are experiencing poverty in Montgomery County. This remains an essential part of our work, as we work to bridge the gaps between what our neighbors have and what they need.
Through our testimony, we shared information about the impact of our programs, and made the case that many more people need still access to them. Our Connections program, for example, is an essential prevention program and one of just a few in the County that helps residents before they receive an eviction notice. This program effectively bridges the gap between homelessness and housing stability. During testimony, we emphasized to Council how the lack of funding available for programs like this limits the number of people we can serve. These programs help to reduce the number of people entering homeless shelters and provides more families with an opportunity to advance on their path to stability.
We cannot do this work without you, and we hope you can join us in supporting our clients and neighbors. There are thousands of people in our community who are still struggling to meet thier needs. Your support at any level can help build a more stable, hopeful future for our neighbors in need. Let's bridge gaps together. Join us by providing support today!
