From the CEO — Gratitude

As we enter a season focused on giving thanks, I want to thank you for your commitment to making and keeping IW strong over a remarkable 50 years! In 2022, we will celebrate five decades of serving our neighbors. It is humbling to think we are walking along the same path first set out by visionary faith leaders who saw people living on the streets of Montgomery County and joined forces to act.

Since then, we have come a long way.

We started out providing shelter for people who had no other place to go. But over the past 50 years, our work has expanded to respond to the needs of our community, with 14 programs tailored to meet people where they are.

We have had to be poised to respond in the longer-term – such as creating Becky’s House as a nurturing home for senior women experiencing homelessness – and in the short-term, serving families struggling with food insecurity and other pandemic impacts, and quickly providing clothing and other essentials to families traumatized by the Rock Creek Woods flood.

The connection through all of these responses is you. From donations of quilts and home-cooked meals to our shelter residents, to the incredible outpouring of funds to help people impacted by flooding, to the individuals and groups who regularly roll up their sleeves to sort donated items at the IW Clothing Center, you are there. Thank you.

As we move into our 50th year, we must be ready to respond and grow to keep meeting the evolving needs of our neighbors. We ask that you consider supporting IW’s year-end campaign to help us build strong, vital programs as we help our neighbors find a pathway to stability.

Wishing you and your family a joyous season of gratitude and hope,

Courtney Hall
