Sort and organize donated clothes & household goods on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday
|The Interfaith Works Clothing Center (IWCC) distributes donated items free of charge to IWCC clients so they can pay for rent, food, and other expenses. Thousands of individuals, businesses, schools, camps, service organizations and congregations donate time and goods, which make our program possible. We are proud to provide the link between people in our community who have things they no longer need or want with the people in the community who are in desperate need of the same items. |
Our hours to volunteer are Tuesday through Friday, 8 AM to 4:00 PM, and Saturday 9 AM to 2 PM. The Clothing Center receives over 400,000 pounds of donations every year and our volunteers help us sort through those donations. In addition to sorting, volunteers will greet donors and help bring in their donations, and also help us prepare the store area so that our clients feel dignified while shopping.
Volunteer opportunities at IW Food Hub and Garden
Interfaith Works has volunteer opportunities at the IW Food HUB and Garden at Twinbrook. The HUB distributes food each week to families experiencing food insecurity. Since December, we have distributed over 600,000 pounds of food and 80,000 diapers. We have also started a garden to grow our own produce.
IW Food HUB
Food distribution happens every Friday, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Volunteers are outside for distribution so please dress according to the weather. Duties are assigned the morning of distribution and may include:
- Filling bags of food
- Directing traffic
- Loading cars with boxes/bags of food
On distribution days, please park along Twinbrook Parkway, since we use the IW parking lot to serve our clients.
The HUB also needs volunteers Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to fill grocery bags.
Volunteers can sign up to help us water the garden on weekday mornings. The time slots are early to help us beat the heat. Watering should only take about 30-45 minutes. Afterward, volunteers are welcome to help us inside filling grocery bags for the Food HUB or folding/organizing clothes at the IW Clothing Center.
On Saturdays, we are looking for volunteers to help us:
- Water the garden
- Pick produce
- Pull weeds
- Mix compost
For maintaining the garden beds, we ask that any volunteer under 15 years old be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers can also help us in the Clothing Center if they choose to stay.
