Going Above and Beyond

We are so lucky to have the support of thousands of you in our work. You help us provide essentials, such as food and clothing, to our families and individuals, and then you go above and beyond to give that something extra that makes a huge impact on those we serve.denise-schleckser-world-book-night-at-Wilkins-Apr-2014-e1400618011858
Denise Schleckser of Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church is one of those volunteers. You often will find her serving dinners with her congregation for the women at our Rockville shelter or discussing the latest news with residents as part of the “Cupcakes and Current Events” program she helps run through the Mover Moms volunteer group. Denise never rests on her laurels, and recently decided the women at the shelter should enjoy “International Book Night,” a worldwide program to share the love of reading. She brought a stack of free books, a special treat for our residents.

Wendy Weisbard is another “above and beyond” volunteer, a youth group leader and congregant at Shaare Torah in Gaithersburg. Wendy is always looking for unusual ways to support IW and make our clients feel special. She recently dropped off some gorgeous goodie bags that included pedicure kits for our female clients and equally beautiful bags of baby items for expecting moms at our Interfaith Clothing Center.

And the women of Leisure World came through as they do every year for their annual baby shower to benefit Interfaith Works. These crafty women put together a huge haul of beautiful bleisure world baby shower April 2014aby things, many handmade, also for the Clothing Center moms.

Mother’s Day was made special for the residents of our women’s shelter and for moms who are participants in our Hand to Hand safety net program. Both groups were pampered with treats and personal care. Women from Gaithersburg Church of the Nazarene provided a delicious tea at our women’s shelter, and our good friends and neighbors from Salon 4  provided personal care services to our Hand to Hand moms.

Thanks to all the volunteers whomothers day 2014 Wilkins Church of Nazarene2013 bring a sense of caring as you share your time and make that important human connection with those who are struggling.
