Children's Activity Area (CAA) Assistant

Many of the Interfaith Clothing Center clients come to the center with their children. While parents shop, children are dropped off in the Children's Activity Area where they can watch a video, read books, color or play.

The CAA Assistant ensure that this area is safe, fun and engaging for the children. Duties include watching over the children, keeping the area tidy and organized, and interacting with children.

Desk Receptionist

The Desk Receptionist is a vital position at the Interfaith Clothing Center. Because it is often the first contact that callers and clients have at the center, the Desk Receptionist must be friendly, outgoing, and willing to assist others.

Duties include general office work including answering the telephone, responding to customer inquiries, greeting clients, making copies, faxing, and depending on the individual's skill level, performing.

Provide a Meal
Whether you are a gourmet, the simplest of cooks, or willing to pick up something from one of our local take-out restaurants, we need you to provide dinner or a portion of a dinner for residents of our two womens shelters each of which house approximately 30 residents nightly. You would supply the ingredients, do the preparation at home, and bring your dishes ready to eat. (We provide plates, cutlery and papergoods.) Staying to serve is optional, but especially meaningful. On occasion we are also looking for bag lunches and items for a light breakfast. Few things in life are more satisfying than feeding the hungry!

Become a Friend
We'll provide the training, and then you'll be equipped to provide assistance with tutoring, job coaching, parenting skills, family budgeting and most importantly friendship to low-income families who need your guidance. To learn more, call Friends in Action at (301) 315-1103.

Landscaping and Gardening
In the spring or fall help is needed to mow the lawn, plant flowers, trim shrubs or do basic yard clean-up at our shelters and group homes. The donation and installation of bulbs or seasonal bedding plants is a perfect youth project for school, club or congregation. And it goes a very long way toward making our program sites more cheerful, reminding us all of the Chinese proverb, He who plants a garden, plants happiness.

Location: At our Housing and Shelter programs, and at many sites throughout the County. Contact: (301) 977-8022.

Administrative and Office Work
Last year more than 33,000 men, women and children received assistance at our doors. None of this would be possible without an organized and effective home office. Can you help us maintain this stability by answering phones, filing, doing data-entry, and assisting with monthly mailings?

Volunteer Opportunities for Youth
Interfaith Works is a great place for volunteers of ALL ages and abilities. However, if you are under the age of 13, you will need to be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult over 18 while you volunteer. If you are between the ages of 13 and 18, you can volunteer by yourself but you will need to fill out our Minor Volunteer Agreement form and bring it with you on your first day of volunteering.

Our programs all satisfy requirements for the Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) Student Service Learning Hours as well as community service requirements for many private schools. When you have completed your hours, just bring in the forms provided by your school and they will be filled out and signed by the manager of the program you have helped.

What else will you receive? Mostly, what you get is the terrific feeling of satisfaction because you know your efforts have made a real difference in someones life! Many youth groups, including school, scouting and congregations help in our programs each year. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator for more information.
