birthday cakes for families_Dec 2015Thanks to the generosity of creative, thoughtful teen bakers, children in our Friends in Action program receive a homemade, personalized decorated birthday cake to help them celebrate.

Through the non-profit BirthdayCakes4Free of Montgomery County, volunteer student bakers lovingly decorate cakes so that children can feel special on their birthdays.

Katie Savercool of our Family Services team (shown at right with teammate Samantha Crosby) says the children’s faces light up when they receive their cakes, each of which has the child’s name on it. “They can’t believe someone made something this special just for them!” she said. “These cakes are like works of art.”

Thank you to student bakers Tatiana Velarde, Summer Steinmiller, Libba Lawrence and others for baking beautiful cakes, and to BirthdayCakes4Free for connecting with Interfaith Works. If you have an idea for something special to do for those we serve, contact our Volunteer Coordinator, volunteer@iworksmc.org, 301.762.8682.
