Interfaith Works Announces New Director of Essential Needs Programs

Interfaith Works is proud to announce that Supriya Mordecai, M.S., is Interfaith Works’ new Director of Essential Needs, which includes the Interfaith Works Clothing Center, Food Pantry and Connections Programs. The Essential Needs Center provides individuals and families with limited income access to clothing, home goods, food, other community resources and emergency rental and utility assistance at no charge to them.

Supriya joined Interfaith Works in 2021 and spent nearly two years as a Case Manager serving clients at the Interfaith Works Drop-In Center and Shelter at Progress Place in Silver Spring (formerly known as the Empowerment Center).  Supriya assisted with Case Management at other IW locations before becoming the Program Director at Progress Place in January 2023.

Interfaith Works CEO Courtney Hall states, “Supriya is an excellent addition to our Senior Leadership Team. Her empathy, efficiency, and creativity will ensure that the IW Essential Needs Center continues to meet the most pressing needs in our community.”

Supriya shares, “As the incoming Director of the Essential Needs Center, I am excited to continue to serve clients in a different capacity while also developing community partnerships to increase donations, as well as volunteers! This is a great program and resource to so many people in Montgomery County. I hope to continue to learn how to best provide client-centered services.”

Supriya holds a Master of Science in Psychology from Hampton University and has a keen interest in and passion for understanding human behavior. She values learning about history and social issues. In her free time, she enjoys new experiences like trying out cuisines and exploring a new city.

Congratulations Supriya, we know in this role you will continue to provide empathetic and equitable service to our neighbors and community members.
