Interfaith Works Women’s Center (Wilkins Avenue Women’s Assessment Center)

Latest Update:

Interfaith Works Women’s Center residents and staff are back at the permanent location following a significant water system failure over the summer! The major repairs took two months and the residents expressed happiness about being home after spending many weeks relocated in temporary quarters at IW Empowerment Center in Silver Spring. Many thanks to our committed IW staff, incredibly generous volunteers and to the many partners who provided what was needed during this challenging time.

Now that the women are settled, we have a lot of openings for volunteers to bring lunches on weekends. Meals are needed for between 35 and 40 residents on Saturdays and Sundays. Bag lunches would be dandy. Hot meals are always appreciated! Volunteers are invited to stay and serve from noon to 1 PM. Contact Sara at if you can help.

We have moved! The Interfaith Works Women’s Center (previously known as the Wilkins Avenue Women’s Assessment Center) has moved to:

2 Taft Court, Suite 100, Rockville, Md., off Gude Drive (lower level of the building, around the back)

Our phone number (301-770-2413) and fax 301-770-5966 will stay the same.

We are excited to move into the new space, which provides residents with expanded living and community areas room and upgraded facilities. In addition, residents are able to access vocational services and dental, medical and behavioral health care services in the same building!

The Center is a 70-bed emergency shelter serving approximately 300 women per year. Case managers work with women to facilitate recovery and stability, as well as connect them with housing, medical, mental health, and social services.
