Rockville, MD – Interfaith Works (IW) announced today that after two impactful years of service to the organization, C. Marie Henderson will be stepping down as Executive Director. Her resignation will be effective May 22, 2013. IW is pleased to announce however, that Henderson will not be leaving the community; she will become the new Director of The Community Foundation for Montgomery County, an affiliate of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region.

“While Marie’s departure is a loss for IW, we feel that she is ideally suited for her new position,” said Dr. Mary Ann Sestili, Chair of Interfaith Works’ Board of Directors. “Our local nonprofits will now benefit from Marie’s guidance and expertise. Having an advocate who understands social services so comprehensively can only strengthen our important work in the community.”

Interfaith Works also announced that Priscilla Fox-Morrill, Director of Homeless Services, will become Interim Executive Director beginning May 23rd. “The board is delighted that Priscilla has agreed to serve as Interim Executive Director,” continued Sestili. “Priscilla is an authority on homelessness in Montgomery County and a community leader who has tirelessly advocated for closing gaps in services for the homeless. She brings twenty years of experience working with Interfaith Works and will be a tremendous asset as we work together through this transition.”

Fox-Morrill has served as IW’s Director of Homeless Services for over 20 years. She started her career by spearheading the original shelter program that became the Wilkins Avenue Women’s Assessment Center. She has partnered with DHHS and all other homeless service providers in Montgomery County in creating almost every new program for homeless individuals in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, including the Horizon House program and Becky’s House. She also led IW in efforts to operate Community Vision, the Vocational Services Program, Watkins Mill, and Carroll House. Ms. Fox-Morrill completed her Master’s Degree coursework in Community Counseling and has more than 23 years of experience serving the homeless, developing and managing programs, and training and supervising shelter staff.

Interfaith Works continues to be a strong nonprofit in our community, making a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.

A comprehensive executive search has begun and is being managed internally by Interfaith Works’ Executive Committee. A full job description is located at www.iworksmc.org. For those interested in applying for the position of Executive Director for Interfaith Works, please consult the website and apply accordingly.

The Lutheran Church of St. Andrew

15300 New Hampshire Avenue

Silver Spring, MD 20905

In President Obama’s State of the Union Address, he said, “no one who works full-time should have to live in poverty.” yet, that is the reality for thousands of hard-working residents throughout the nation and in Montgomery County. What will federal budget cuts mean for them?

This year’s May 1 Caregivers Conference will take place during a time of growing need and concern about the impact of sequestration. What will it mean for those who serve the poor, the unemployed, and the undocumented? Will we have to make hard choices about who can be served, how often and in what ways?

Join us on May 1 for an interactive disucssion about our responses to poverty, now and in the days ahead. We will ask experts hard questions about topics such as values and setting boundaries. We will ask ourselves questions, even when we may not have all the answers. Come be a part of the discussion on May 1.

Plenary Guests include: Dr. Virletta Bryant, J.C. Hayward, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett, Dr. Sondra Ely Wheeler

This program is approved for (3.0) Category II CEUs.
